Helen Harrison (r) I had a great time today at the SMAA in D.C. As part of the centennial of Jackson Pollock's birth, they have an exhibition featuring some papers, etc. from their archives. The small exhibition was guest curated by Helen Harrison. She is the director of the Pollock-Krasner House and Study Center on Long Island. She was giving a gallery talk/lecture today about the items in the exhibition. It was a great lecture, and I had some time afterwards to talk a little bit one-on-one with Ms. Harrison. The whole time I was yearning for the day I was able to spend at the center in the summer of '09. It was certainly a formative experience for me, finally getting the chance to see the house and studio. Another enjoyable moment today was being asked 20 questions by another person in the audience on what it's like teaching art to young children. Let's just say we talked for about an hour. I have the give this wonderful woman some extreme credit. She's probably in her early 80's, lives in a retirement village in Arlington, and hopped in a cab just to make it today, walker and all. That's dedication my friends...
