PTA After School Program
The PTA at Clemens Crossing ES, has wonderful after school programs. The ASP has many offerings including drama, karate, sports, etc. As part of the program, I offer between two and four sessions each school year. Typically, I offer two sessions of Art Club and one session of either Table Games or LEGOmaniacs. This may change from year to year depending on my schedule, requests from the PTA, or popularity of each class. Classes are offered after school from 4:00 to 5:00pm. If you are looking for any forms in order to sign up, you can find them here on the CCES PTA website, or your child can ask me during Art class.
(Please remember when opening links you'll be on the
internet. Thus, you may want to review website content before using
with children.)
Art Club
I've been doing the Art Club for several years now. Your child can do just about anything in Art Club (as long as it is school appropriate of course). If your child really enjoyed a certain process, material, unit, etc. in class, and would like to do it again, this is the best place for them. I try to keep things very open, meaning that the kids may work on whatever they'd like, and I'm there to assist in any way necessary. This is also the time and place where kids can do things that I normally don't have enough material to do with an entire grade, like wax painting, Model Magic, using the crayon makers, etc. Art Club is not used as time for students to make-up classwork unless absolutely necessary. And this can only happen at a parent's request.
Art Club meets once a week, most of the time on Tuesdays. However, that might change from year to year. We have one session in the Fall and sometimes another in the Spring. Each session lasts approximately 8-10 weeks and is open to 20 students in 4th and 5th grades.

Table Games
Table Games was something that I started about two years ago. The idea came from seeing kids into video games more and more. I remember growing up, and the card and board games I played with friends and relatives. I was (and still am) concerned that games I played, might not last long enough for my own children to play, especially Crates, a card game that I still play with friends today. Along with Crates, kids also learn other card games like Go Fish, Rummy, Shanghai, etc. We also use packaged card games like Uno, Phase 10, and Skip-Bo. While teaching the harder games like Crates and Shanghai, others have the chance to enjoy classic board games like Battleship, Mancala, and Sorry. Along with card and board games, students also learn Paper Football and Table Ball.
Table Games meets once a week, most of the time on Thursdays. However, that might change from year to year. We normally have one session in the Fall. Each session lasts approximately 8 weeks and is open to 16 students in 4th and 5th grades.

LEGOmaniacs
I must admit that I owe my the insipiration of my idea for LEGOmaniacs to Mr. Nath, one of our gifted and talented teachers at CCES. Together we run an extension of some of the LEGO units he does in his classes. We assign LEGO builds (roughly four for the school year), each one has a theme and a max number of pieces that can be used. Participation is optional, open to all students in K-5, and to be done at home. Submissions are then put on display in the case by the front doors.
LEGOmaniacs will run in a similar fashion. Each week we'll have timed builds, based on themes and max number of pieces. This is very good for promoting creative problem solving and fine motor skills. This group meets once a week on Thursdays, yet that may change from year to year. We have one session in the Spring. Each session lasts approximately 8 weeks and is open to 20 students in grades 2nd, 3rd, and 4th.
