Egret Taking Flight My teacher roommate from Kansas City asked if I wanted to accompany him to Nantucket today. I of course obliged, being that it was something new to do and see. I didn't know until driving over that he originally grew up on Nantucket. So it was nice to be able to see the place with someone that knew a little about the area, although it had been almost 40 years since he was last there. It was a lot of travel time today. It was a decent drive to get the ferry, and about 90 min. or so on the ferry over to Nantucket. My roommate wanted to walk a lot (which was fine) but especially to see his old family house. After doing that, he wanted to see the Nantucket Lightship Basket Museum. I had never heard of lightship baskets before, so I was intrigued. I have to say the museum was a bit disappointing. It was very, very small, and not a lot to see. There was a lot of information to read about the baskets though. From there we walked and took a bus over to the Nantucket Shipwreck & Lifesaving Museum. That place was awesome. There was a lot of displays on the shipwrecks and rescues that have taken place over the last 200 years or so. And I took a great shot (above) of some wildlife next to the museum in a pond. Overall, Nantucket was nice. I really can't complain, it just seemed like a glorified Annapolis to me. But any new experience is a good one. And I had a killer swordfish wrap at this little restaurant that we visited. So, it all worked out...
