Cool day today. I was able to hang out with one of the teachers I befriended last summer in CT. We went to Venice Beach and walked around for awhile. From there we headed to Manhattan Beach and also had lunch at OB's. It was a lot of fun catching up and trading ideas on teaching, etc.
After all of that beach walking and talking, I headed out to dinner with Brandy. We hit up Soot Bull Jeep Korean BBQ in Koreatown. It was delicious. I've never been to a place where they just bring you raw meat, and you grill it right in the middle of the table where you are sitting! What an experience. We ended the night with a walk through Citywalk in Hollywood.

I'm here... Arrived in LA this afternoon, and was so excited to see one of my best friends, Brandy. We've known each other since middle school, and she's like my little sister. I rarely get to see her, but maybe once a year when she gets back east to visit family, friends, and such. So when I was accepted to the NEH workshop in Santa Fe, I called her and just had to set up a visit. She's been in Los Angeles for the past 12 years or so, working very hard in the television industry.
After arriving, we dropped off my stuff and headed to Hollywood. We walked up and down the Walk of Fame checking different things out in the downtown area, including Grauman's Theater. We hit up some lunch at Kitchen 24 and then began heading uphill toward the Hollywood Bowl. Yep, I said it, the Bowl. My friend was able to get tickets to the Ben Harper show, and Fitz and the Tantrums were the opener. It was great seeing a show at the Bowl, but wish my wife was there. We've gone to a bunch of Ben Harper shows together, and it just wasn't the same without her. I had a good time though and the show was good. I even saw one of the teachers I met last year at my NEH workshop in CT, and became friends with instantly. On the way back, we even hit Jack in the Box. We don't have those back east, so just had to see what the fuss is all about. More to do tomorrow... |
