Below you'll find links that are art-based and kid-friendly. They are associated with museums/galleries, art education websites of some sort, or just some cool art-related concepts and tools, etc.

Art Games
This is a site from the Albright-Knox gallery in Buffalo, New York. It has a design studio for kids, as well as interactive games based on the gallery's collection and art vocabulary/elements. Art Safari Here you'll find an art and writing activity for elementary and middle school children based on four famous pieces from MOMA's collection in NYC. Choose one of the artworks to start the fun. CMA Kids The Cleveland Museum of Art in Ohio created this website for children. It has lessons that students can click on for making art at home, and several Q & A sections based on the city and the collection of the museum. Destination Modern Art Designed by MOMA in New York, this site is more for suited younger children. Children take an intergalactic journey through the museum collection, with activities based on major artists and works in the collection. Although meant for younger ages, older children can still enjoy reviewing some of their favorite artists. Getty Games This is the site from the J. Paul Getty Museum in Los Angeles, CA. You can play free online games using the Getty collection, including playing detective, puzzles, and even make your own art! Metropolitan Museum for Kids This activity page is supposed to be for alll children. However, I feel it is more for intermediate grades, unless an adult guides younger children through the activities. There are artist pages, interactive games, online tours, etc. based on the Metropolitan Museum's collection. National Gallery of Art Kids' Zone This is a site through the NGA in Washington, DC. It is made up of several different ways that you can make interactive art online. SmART Kids From the Smart Museum of Art, University of Chicago; for students ages 7-12 to discover ways to look at, think about, and respond creatively to art. The Artist's Toolkit The Minneapolis Institute of Arts created this site for exploring the elements and principles of visual art. Wacky Kids Wacky Kids was put together by the Denver Art Museum in Colorado. It has a few menus that children can choose from, whether they want to closely investigate an object from the museum's collection, make something similar or based on an object from the collection, or print out mazes, etc. |

This is a site where you can make your own painting using the keyboard, and choosing the color, tool, etc. from the menu. Afterward you can actually save your work to the online gallery. Color Scheme Generator Kids (and adults for that matter) constantly ask me what colors go together and so on. It's a pretty hard question to answer sometimes. There are different answers for each situation (i.e.: interior design, clothes, etc.). And a lot of times with fashion, it's kind of a learned skill or level of taste. Here's a pretty cool tool taht you can use for a variety of purposes. Free Rice Although it's only connection with art used to be some of the vocabulary, they now have more! You can actually take an art quiz where you are matching the artist with the piece. Or you can take a vocabulary quiz with words given, and for each correct answer you earn 20 grains of rice. Whenever you want to stop, the corporate sponsors of the site donate the actual amount of rice to stopping World Hunger. Google Art Project Explore museums from around the world, discover and view hundreds of artworks at incredible zoom levels, and even create and share your own collection of masterpieces. Haring Kids Kids can easily identify with the artwork of Keith Haring. On this site students can view his artwork, look at children's books that the artist wrote, make/send e-cards, create coloring book pages, and play games. Jackson Pollock On this website you can use the keyboard to create a computer generated piece of art in the manner and style of Jackson Pollock. Lego Games If you love Legos, this is a website for you. There are all sorts of Lego related games, building types, etc. Lite-Brite Just like the old children's toy, you can use small colored pegs in order to make your own lite-brite masterpiece. Modwalls This website is from a tile company. That may sound strange, but the link goes to their "blender." This is neat because you can choose up to ten colors of tile and organize them by number and pattern in tile sample/mosaic. And for parents, you can order the tile for whatever you may need in your home. Moveable Art You can create your own moveable art at home. Just a tip, click and drag to create lines and colors. Mr. Picasso Head If you remember Mr. Potato Head, this is the same thing but an online version using popular themes and shapes from Pablo Picasso's pen and ink drawings. Just click and drag the different elements that you want to use, and you can enlarge them or change the color, etc. Online Etch-a-Sketch Based on the popular toy from my childhood, this site features a gallery of Etch-a-Sketch artwork, and other areas that are for members only. This website requires fast internet speed. Worldwide Art Gallery This site for full of examples of kids' art from all ages, all over the US and other countries. You can submit your own artwork, or just view examples from other children and cultures. |
