Community Exhibitions
There are always several art shows every year in Howard County. Through my years at CCES, I've tried to have other exhibits in the community. The more kids that can have work displayed, the better! There has been artwork on display at the Hickory Ridge Village Center at places such as Suntrust Bank and Giant. Look below for what has been going on recently or may be currently on view.
We received some press about a photography unit and resulting show we had in partnership with the Columbia Association. You can click on the links below to find the various articles written about our students and their work.

Here you can find all applicable downloads for the HCPPS photo/media based show this Fall, 2014, Art of the Selfie. Participation in this show is voluntary. If your child chooses to participate, he/she may not be in the final show, as we are limited in space, size, and scope for this exhibition. Only a handful of submissions will be chosen from each school. However, we'll see if there's another way we can highlight the submissions elsewhere.
The images your child takes that day will have to be downloaded and then emailed by Friday, 11/14. Prior to emailing them, please check for things like focus, strength of image, etc. You and your child will be notified if they will be taking part in the county exhibit. It will take place at the Columbia Arts Center, January 7th through February 2nd.
I've uploaded some things that may be of assistance to you. The first is the same handout intermediate students took home. The next two are Powerpoint presentations have to do with photography. The first .ppt is a condensed history of photography if interested. The second is what I call a "Top 10 List for Taking Photos." Next, is a .pdf file from the Visual Arts office pertaining to a show from last year, but the tips are good for overall picture taking. Lastly, you can view a gallery below of some pretty interesting selfies. Hopefully, this aids the process for you, and any conversations you have with your child.
As always, if you have any questions, please don't hesitate to call or email.
